But I see the odd complaint of lag, although with no real qualification of this.
What I want to know, since VMWare Fusion can use your Bootcamp partition (and not just import it to a new VM like Parallels), is how does Unity perform? It seems to me, to be the "best of both worlds", letting me sit in macOS, but also run the various Windows apps I need daily from the Bootcamp partition.

I will be installing Windows 10 via Bootcamp on it when I get it. However, we are clearly a Microsoft shop, and I am the senior DBA (among other things) for our company. To my surprise, they turned out to be pretty much the same price, but I am not a huge fan of HP build quality and the Macbook is just a nicer device to use, plus I very much prefer the Apple keyboard/trackpad.

I was able to choose between a Macbook Pro or an HP Elitebook 850. I do run some heavy workloads on it sometimes, which the Surface probably isn't that suitable for. I wanted a larger device, mainly because I now work from home and don't need to lug it anywhere often (but I ocassionally need to travel down to London so a desktop doesn't work). The point - I am getting a new work computer, which is a 2017 15inch Macbook Pro (i7, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD) to replace my deeply, deeply frustrating Surface 4 Pro. I have used Bootcamp on it, and have been very happy with how it works and performs, but I don't have the space for it right now. I do use VMWare Fusion 8.5 on it as well, for mainly Linux VMs and have been happy with its performance. Still going strong, I use it for everything and 98% of the time, use OS X. Have any questions about the options? Since I have a license to all of them and use them all for various purposes I would be happy to answer any specific questions about the products.Įxported from Medium on September 9, 2019.Pre-face - My primary home computer is a 2013 13inch Macbook Pro.

There are cases that are in-between, for example you might not need full speed but you do need full compatibility, then either Parallels or VMWare Fusion ought to work for you, like when you want to run IE7 to view a website. Crossover Office is now robust enough to run Outlook 2003 pretty well along with some older games like Counter Strike: Source though it doesn’t have support for the very latest software. The simplest answer is to use Crossover Office to run applications that work with it, as when it works it satisfies the ideal requirements and then use Bootcamp when you absolutely have to have a true Windows machine.

If I was focusing on my code and needed to get something done, I would reboot into BootCamp mode. If I was 'playing around' with some code and not coding intently I could do it in Fusion without any significant performance hit. I have reviewed these products in the past but I think they have rev’d enough times to make it worth my while to revisit them and see how far they have come. I have used Vista 64 + Visual Studio 2008 in both BootCamp and VMWare Fusion modes and both perform well. Parallels vs VMWare vs Bootcamp vs Codeweavers Crossover Office revisited
